What is Apothecary?

An Apothecary was a place in ancient times that sold drugs or compounds for medicinal purpose. Apothecary shops sold ingredients and the medicines they prepared wholesale to other medical practitioners, as well as dispensing them to patients, basically a modern day pharmacist. Due to the alarming side effects of modern day medications and doctors being taught to treat the symptoms of disease instead of the root cause many people are exploring the healing possibilities of plant-based medicines, and health shops to heal their bodies.

Herbal Apothecary

Herbal Apothecary uses herbs to create teas, tinctures, infused oils, compresses, balms and salves. Herbs have been used since the beginning of time to heal the body, They are useful in increasing energy, eliminating waste in the body and of course to promote healing.

Concoctions with Herbs

Herbs create some of the most healing medicines to treat the acute problems of our bodies.

Herbal Tea - is the oldest beverage in history and are also known for their powerful antioxidant content. Herbal teas are made from different part of the plants like flowers, roots, seeds or bark.

Tincture - are alcoholic liquid extracts made from herbs that you take orally to improve your general health based upon the herbs used. Tinctures are extracted most often in alcohol because it is such a potent solvent.

Infused Oil - infusing herbs in skin nourishing carrier oils creates an oil that is healing and can be used to create salves, lip balms, facial serums, hair treatments and body butters and creams.

My Favorite Herbs

I have listed some of my favorite herbs and their benefits:

Calendula Flowers - is by far my favorite herb. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of calendula make it a good face wash for dry, irritated skin and acne.

Chamomile  -This plant is used for colic, indigestion, flatulence, bloating heartburn and to calm nervousness. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic, antibacterial and antispasmodic properties. Some people suffering from peptic ulcers find relief from drinking chamomile tea.

Comfrey Leaf - Comfrey is one of the best-known healing herbs of all times. Comfrey salves, ointments and teas are best known for the topical treatment of burns, skin ulcerations, abrasions, lacerations, flea and insect bites, and just about any skin irritation

Sage - Sage is an excellent natural disinfectant and deodorizer Extracts of sage are used  to heal the skin as well. Sage sticks are very popular now for smudging because the use of sage is for healing. The smoke is used to bless, cleanse and heal the person or object being smudged.

Peppermint - Peppermint is a first herb of choice for treatment of colds and flu because it acts to relieve multiple symptoms at once: congestion, headaches and muscle aches, nausea and fever.

Yarrow - I love yarrow in my tea. Yarrow is a fantastic herb to have on hand to treat winter colds and flu; a hot cup of yarrow tea makes you sweat and helps the body expel toxins while reducing fever.

I have only listed a meniscal amount of herbs. I implore you to discover herbs and implement them in your daily health care.
