Turmeric is not your ordinary spice, it possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties which make it a powerhouse herbal powder. Turmeric has also been used for thousands of years to treat various skin diseases and heal wounds. Turmeric has been used in Asian cuisine and medicine for centuries to treat various conditions. It seems that we in the Western world just know discovering the amazing benefits that turmeric has on the skin. I know, for myself, I just discovered this spice in a whole new light.
Turmeric on your skin
Let's break down the benefits of turmeric and why it's sooo good for your skin. The main compound in turmeric is curcumin, it is an effective ingredient to soothe skin irritations, treat burns and relieve the pain of sunburn. As a mask or balm, turmeric works to calm acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It also has amazing antioxidant properties, that is used for skin rejuvenation, evening skin tone, softening lines and wrinkles, giving the face a more youthful appearance.
Applying turmeric to your face, brightens the skin and makes it look fresh and clean. (Who doesn't want that) Did you know that in India brides cover their entire bodies in a turmeric paste on the morning of their wedding so that their skin has an ethereal glow on their wedding day.
There are numerous ways to implement turmeric into your daily skin ritual:
Facial Mask* - you an create several facial Mask with turmeric to clear skin. My personal favorite is to add honey and milk. Make sure to use Manuka honey or raw honey that supports bees and hives for giving us the majestic gift of honey.
Bath* - a turmeric bath is amazing to give your skin an amazing glow.
Facial Balm- turmeric is known to reduce oily skin and even out skin tones.
