The Best Kept Secret "Butter" for your hair - Mango Butter

When I went natural again for the 3rd time, I wanted to do my due diligence to protect my hair from damage since this time (I really mean it) I will not be going back to a relaxer and my goal is to achieve BIG hair.

I normally wear my natural hair very short however, I have decided to grow the baddest styled AFRO ever. To do this, with my 4c hair type, which tends to be dry, I knew I needed a heavy sealant for everyday wear and styling. I decided to make a hair balm that incorporates the best butters and oils to lock in moisture and promote hair growth. I knew all about Shea Butter and Coconut Oil but in doing my research I came upon a butter that has enhanced my hair and given life to my styling routine, Mango Butter.

What is Mango Butter?????

Mango Butter and Shea Butter for Hair
Mango Butter is extracted from kernels of the mango. The mango originates from southern Asia and can be found in warmer tropical climates such as Burma and India. Indigenous people of the rainforest have been reaping the hair and skin care benefits of this magnificent fruit for many centuries. Mango butter contains natural emollient qualities that help keep the skin moisturized, therefore when applied to the scalp it restores and maintains the moisture and promotes cell regeneration. This all contributes to a healthy scalp that in turn results in healthy hair growth.  Mango butter possesses similar qualities to cocoa butter and shea butter in the way of consistency and benefits, however, it contains higher levels of fatty acid making it a more intensive moisturizer.  Lack of moisture in the hair can result in weak, brittle hair and in turn, leads to breakage and ultimately hair loss. Mango butter contains high levels of antioxidants and beneficial vitamins A, C, and E.

Great Moisturizer for Hair

For those of us who have a difficult time locking in moisture especially during the summer months, Mango Butter is fantastic sealant for the hair.  Packed with fatty acids and other vitamins, mango butter is great moisture-rich food for your hair. Its benefits include softening the hair and preventing environmental damage. Mango butter is perfect for tresses that need the ultimate moisture and hydration. You can use it alone or add it to your favorite conditioner to give you extra moisture or use a pre-poo. It’s also a great additive for shampoos and hair creams. Since it's a butter, it can penetrate the hair cuticle to fortify hair from the inside; Mango Butter does this better than oils because it has a higher amount of saturated fats and monounsaturated fats.

Organic Sealant for Twist Outs

I use mango butter, organic shea butter, organic coconut oil, and avocado oil as a sealant also I add organic beeswax to add more definition to my twist outs with my Healthy Hair Butter.

After washing and conditioning my hair, I apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner and spray my hair with my distilled water mixed with organic sweet almond oil to add additional moisture for easier manipulation of my hair. Then I apply my twist out balm or HHB to each of my twists paying extra attention to the ends of my twist to seal in moisture and prevent breakage on my ends. I then wrap my hair in a satin cap and let the butter do its' job.

The end result is soft and moisturized hair with well-defined twist-outs without feeling greasy.  My hair is nourished with vitamins and antioxidants and my dry hair worries are gone!!!!!

Hi Fannie,

I have a link to a great article about oxidation of hair, http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/antioxidants-in-hair-products/

Basically, colors, sun damage and breakage is a form of oxidation of hair. Your hair needs vitamins to repair the damage to your hair on a cellular level. Natural Butters and Oils contain those vitamins to heal your hair. Mango Butter is an antioxidant to heal your hair.

I hope this helps
