Hydrosols are among the gentlest and safest aromatics for use in caring for your complexion. Soothing and calming they have anti-inflammatories to ease the redness of rosacea, worn skin, razor bumps, or gentle antibacterial to help calm troubled skin and acne. Essentially, it is the aromatic water collected from slowly distilled fresh plant material that is packed full of nutrients used to balance and restore the skins natural PH. Because they are not nearly as concentrated as an essential oil, those with very sensitive skin may find they really like hydrosols for this reason. Additionally, hydrosols contain all of the water-soluble compounds in the plant that do not get extracted into the essential oil.
Hydrosol should not be confused with traditional cosmetic sprays where essential oils are isolated in distilled water with other chemicals. Hydrosols are produced from their therapeutic properties as opposed to their scent although they are self-scented by the property from which is was distilled. During the distillation process, the healing properties of its primary constituent are compressed into particles small enough to be absorbed by the body for immediate distribution.
Hydrosols are the difference of taking a vitamin versus eating a fruit or vegetable. The act of chewing fruit gives our digestive system more powerful benefits through vitamin intake and improved digestion. Looking at the nutrition of fruit, most fruits are a great source of fiber, potassium, vitamin C and folate and so much more The benefits are the same for a hydrosol for the skin, they contain minerals, cellulose, and aromatic compounds. Additionally, they contain essential oil compounds as well as organic acids and will include many of the water-soluble plant pigments and flavonoids. Pure plant hydrosols have some of nature’s best antioxidants, hydrosols are integral in protecting the skin from free radicals, pollution, and help to restore environmentally damaged skin. Saturating the skin daily with these precious waters restores pH balance, refreshes, and tones skin tissue, maintaining soft and smooth skin while significantly increasing vitality and hydration to all skin conditions.

Curly hair thrives in a moisture rich environment and water is one of the best ways to quench its thirst. The real role of moisture is in mitigating damage to hair during handling. This has a valuable role in ensuring that hair growth can be retained as less damage to the strand means that the hair can continue to be present for more years.
There are many Hydrosols made from plants that can be beneficial in natural hair care. These gentle botanical waters can be used in cleansing rinses, scalp toners, or as an ingredient in creams, soaps, or conditioners. Though almost any of our wide range of Hydrosols can be used to complement hair care recipes, the most popular choices are Lavender, Rosemary, Lemongrass, and Neroli. These four Hydrosols are particularly sought after for their hair care benefits.
Lavender - Lavender hydrosol is a much better alternative to use when washing your hair. It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, which brings a substantial contribution to keeping your hair clean, shiny, and healthy.
Rosemary -contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help to soothe dry, itchy and irritated scalps
Lemongrass - is refreshing and cleaning to the scalp and add shine to the hair
Neroli - is more popular as an aromatic hydrosol for hair care. It has a floral, fruity and fragrant scent.
I have very coarse and tightly coiled hair (4c) and my hair tends to be dry all the time. I also live in New Orleans, which is humid and hot, my hair needs moisture. I would use a spray leave in conditioners to quench my hair thirst during the day. However, I found that my hair would be sticky and oily by the end of the day (almost like a dry Jeri curl). Because most of those products were filled with emulsifiers and other nasty chemicals that were drying my hair. So I new I need a really basic hair rehydration spray, I started to just spray distilled water and Aloe Vera Juice in my hair, the results were amazing soft hydrate hair all day. However the smell of aloe vera juice is not appealing to me, I went to my favorite herbal store and picked up a rose hydrosol to mix with my hydration spray. I loved the spray so much, I decided to experiment with different hydrosol spray to create the perfect rehydration spray for my dry hair. I cannot express my love for a hydrosol spray or herbal water spray.
